Our selection method
We started with the 7 rug listings in the 5x7 ft catalogue pool, all matched to the 5x7 ft size filter. From there we shortlisted on the specifications and details in each listing: exact dimensions, washability, outdoor use, stain and fade resistance, and stated style. Prices shown on this page are live prices read from each listing at the clock time printed beside them. Our editors did not test these rugs; the picks and awards reflect only the stated catalogue information.
What matters when choosing
Start with the stated dimensions
A rug listed as 5x7 ft may measure a little more or less than an exact 5 feet by 7 feet. In this pool, the Laura Ashley rug is listed as 5' x 7', the SAFAVIEH Cabana is listed as 5'1" x 7', and several others are listed as 5'3" x 7'3". Use the exact listed dimension to check how much floor it will cover under a sofa, bed or dining set rather than assuming all 5x7 rugs share the same footprint.
Look for care claims that are stated in the listing
The seven picks differ mainly in which care claims the seller makes. Machine washable, outdoor use, stain resistant, stain and fade resistant, easy clean and non shedding are all claims you can verify from the listing. If a rug does not state one of those claims, treat it as missing rather than assumed. For example, buy a machine-washable rug only when the listing says machine washable.
Check the fiber content label
The FTC requires most textile products sold in the U.S. to carry labels listing fiber content, country of origin and the identity of the manufacturer or another business responsible for the item. When the listing does not say what the rug is made of, the label is the place to get the material information before you clean or install it.
Plan for indoor air quality
The EPA notes that newly installed flooring, upholstery and carpet can be sources of indoor pollutants, and that volatile organic compounds can be emitted by household products. If you are sensitive to odors or VOCs, the EPA recommends increasing ventilation when using or installing products that may emit them and following any label precautions. Air out a new rug in a well-ventilated space if you notice a strong smell.
Match the style to the room and the cleaning routine
The pool breaks into four visual groups: braided, medallion, Persian and Oriental, and outdoor colorways. The braided SAFAVIEH rug suits casual and multi-color rooms, the red and ivory Well Woven medallions suit formal interiors, the Laura Ashley medallion gives a washable option, and the SAFAVIEH Cabana is for outdoor spaces. Choose the style first, then confirm the care claim you need for the room.
Questions
Are 5x7 rugs exactly 5 feet by 7 feet?
Not always. A rug sold as 5x7 may be listed with a slightly different measurement. In this pool, one rug is listed as 5' x 7', another is listed as 5'1" x 7', and several are listed as 5'3" x 7'3". Always check the exact dimensions in the listing and measure your floor space before buying.
Can I machine wash a 5x7 rug?
Only if the listing says it is machine washable. In this pool, the Laura Ashley Sea Spray Blue Josette is the pick with a machine-washable spec. A 5x7 ft rug is a large item, so even when the seller says machine washable, check the care label and your washing machine capacity before laundering it.
Will a 5x7 rug work on a patio or porch?
It can, but only choose an outdoor rug if the listing says it is made for that use. The SAFAVIEH Cabana is the one rug in this pool listed as an outdoor rug. Using an indoor-only rug outside may cause it to wear faster, especially in sun, rain or high-traffic exterior areas.
What information should a rug label provide?
Under FTC textile labeling rules, most textile products sold in the U.S. must have a label with the fiber content, country of origin and the name or registered identification number of the manufacturer or another business responsible for the item. That label is a useful place to confirm the material and care information that a short product listing may not include.
How should I care for a 5x7 rug?
Regular vacuuming helps keep dust and dirt from building up in the pile. The Carpet and Rug Institute recommends periodic professional cleaning to maintain a carpet or rug's performance. For rugs that are listed as machine washable, follow the care label and confirm your washing machine can handle the size.
Can a new rug affect indoor air quality?
The EPA lists newly installed carpet and flooring among potential indoor pollutant sources and notes that volatile organic compounds can be emitted by household products. If you are sensitive to smells, open windows or use ventilation when unrolling a new rug, and follow any care or airing instructions from the manufacturer.
